Nabucco’s libretto by Temistocle Solera immediately caught Verdi’s attention during the composition of the opera. The love at first sight came on the words taken from Psalm 137, in which the people of Israel sit along the rivers of Babylon and mourn the memory of Sion; the poignant verses became the Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves “Va’, pensiero” (Part III), the best-known number which represents a hymn of hope for the rebirth of an entire community so deeply relevant in these difficult days.
