Gea Garatti Ansini takes the helm of the Teatro Regio Chorus, succeeding Ulisse Trabacchin. The Theater wishes to thank Maestro Trabacchin for the professional growth achieved alongside the Regio artists since June 2023—a period marked by great success, including Abbiati Awards and consistently enthusiastic reviews for the Chorus. Special thanks also go to Maestro Piero Monti, who stepped in to lead our choral ensemble across a wide range of lyric and symphonic productions, most recently in Verdi’s Macbeth conducted by Riccardo Muti.

As of today, Tuesday, March 10, Chorus Master Garatti Ansini officially begins her tenure. She is already at work preparing Francis Poulenc’s Dialogues des Carmélites, which opens on March 31—a major appointment featuring a 20th-century masterpiece making its Turin debut.

A choral conductor and pianist, Gea Garatti Ansini graduated in piano, choral music, and conducting from the “Giovan Battista Martini” Conservatory in Bologna. She continued her advanced studies at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome and specialized in the Kodály method at the University of Esztergom in Hungary. Over a thirty-year career, she has collaborated with some of Italy’s leading opera houses and symphonic foundations, including the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, the Teatro Comunale di Bologna, the Teatro Massimo “Vincenzo Bellini” in Catania, and the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, where she led the choral ensemble starting in 2018. She has conducted and prepared a vast operatic and symphonic repertoire, working with conductors such as Riccardo Muti, Zubin Mehta, Antonio Pappano, Daniele Gatti, Michele Mariotti, and Sir John Eliot Gardiner, as well as directors including Franco Zeffirelli, Damiano Michieletto, Hugo de Ana, and Mario Martone. In 2022, she was honored with the Tina Anselmi Award for her distinction in a traditionally male-dominated profession.
