Unexpected

Reinhard Goebel

Drawing on his vast knowledge of the 18th-century repertoire and his experience as a mediator between the demands of modern orchestras and historically informed performance practice, Reinhard Goebel, with the TRT Philharmonic, sheds the wig and powder of Classicism in a surprising program that includes the Fantasy KV 475, originally for keyboard and orchestrated by a contemporary of Mozart; Haydn’s “Farewell” Symphony, famous for its curious finale in which the musicians leave the stage one by one; and finally the Symphony Op. 33 by Eberl, a friend of Beethoven who is ripe for rediscovery.
